The SEMO Little Theater Group,
Inc. was formed
as a State non profit organization in 1985 with the purpose of “Providing a variety of high quality, live stage performances in order to enhance an appreciation of
the
Arts in
Southeast Missouri.” We are also recognized as a non profit public charity by the IRS. All donations to the group are tax deductible.
Please remember SEMO Little Theater when considering your various contributions.
We are a participant in the Neighborhood Assistance Program where business
and some individuals can qualify for 70% State Tax Credits for donations made to our
organization.
Currently there are 22 members in the group. Anyone interested in any aspect of Theater is encouraged to attend the Group’s monthly meetings. Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m., the
first Monday, monthly, at 112 Kennett Street, in Kennett. The current officers are Phil Wilburn - president,
Angie Nix - vice president, Deborah Milburn - recording secretary, Helen
Casper - corresponding secretary, and Kathy Rasberry - treasurer. For information about upcoming events or auditions call Phil Wilburn at 573-344-6808 or Kathy Rasberry
at 573-888-4090.
In addition to it's stage presentations The Group has presented short skits, plays and readings to grade school
classes and has presented readings at the Dunklin County Library and participated in the Library’s Summer Reading Program. The group has also provided entertainment
at Christmas parties for local businesses. Each year, since 1990, we have presented an annual cash award to a Kennett High School Senior. For the past
six years the Group has presented a Variety show on Thanksgiving weekend, titled Encore, featuring past recipients of the SEMO Little Theater’s - Terrence Van Hunter Memorial Award for the Performing Arts and Friends.
Thanks to a Neighborhood Assistance Grant from the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the overwhelming support from the Community the Group has purchased a building. The building, which is being renovated to become a performing arts center, is located at 112 Kennett Street. It was formerly known as the Coca Cola Bottling Plant and most recently was operated as Vavak Brothers Printing Company.
